Huntington's Disease Support Information
(HD Fact Sheet)

Huntington's Disease and the Center for Neurobehavioral Health

At the Center, we are able to provide education, referral, and behavioral consultations for families and individuals dealing with Huntington’s.  Huntington’s patients can live for up to 30 years with the disease with many of those years being spent at home before more advanced care is required.  Living with Huntington’s is often a chore for the patient and the family.  Behavioral supports involve methods of approaching individuals, reducing environmental stimulation, and increasing the predictability of the environment.  Additional supports include advice on adequate food intake (HD patients require up to 5,000 calories per day) with an emphasis on prevention of behavioral difficulty.  Referrals to qualified neurologists and psychiatrists can be offered as well.

Dr. Stein currently serves as a consultant to the Laurel Lake Huntington’s Disease Program in Lee, Massachusetts.  The Laurel Lake program has the largest concentration of Huntington’s patients in one center with approximately 40 individuals with Huntington’s Disease.  Dr. Stein conducts staff training and meets with patients and management to design proper environments and behavioral supports for those suffering from this devastating disease.
